About The Event

Come join us in Athens, Greece to ring in the new year!

Our pop-ups provide a super casual, budget-friendly opportunity to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share your insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community.

We've cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature, arts, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests (we provide supplemental ideas to tailor your experience).

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you! We would love to have you come and simply hang out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings.

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*New Year's Fireworks

*The Ellinikon Experience Park

*Acropolis, Parthenon, & Acropolis Museum

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: It's safe to say there will be no localized neighborhood for this pop-up. We will group activities by area to explore a different part of the city each day. Finding a centrally-located spot or a place further out with metro access will make traveling around the city much easier. As with any new destination, please read neighborhood reviews carefully to make sure you're in an area that feels comfortable for your family, not all Athens neighborhoods are family-friendly after dark.

One host family will stay in the Koukaki neighborhood, the other is out in the suburbs.

TRANSPORT OPTIONS:

Google Maps works well for researching routes. There is a Moovit app specifically for public transport options and taxis / Uber / Beat are also available.

MEET YOUR HOSTS (Rachel & Elizabeth):

Elizabeth is a slow world/unschooling mom of two: 8 year old girl and 10 year old boy.  She lives in the outskirts of Athens and her family is excited to co-host this pop-up. Elizabeth's family left the US in 2014 and has lived in Honduras, Tanzania, Mexico City, and now Greece.  Soon they'll select their next spot for summer 2023, but don't know where yet!  Elizabeth is not currently working, but enjoys exploring and going on adventures with her kids!  She toys with the idea of going back to work or starting her own business.

Rachel and her family will be co-hosting this event. Rachel's family has been on the road full time since 2018 with plenty of travel experience prior to that. Two of her children will join in this pop-up (ages 13 and 15), their oldest is out of the home. Favorite family travel destinations include Spain, New Zealand, Mexico and Namibia, though Rachel also loves Sweden, Switzerland, and Laos.
