About The Event

Come join us in Bukhara and Samarkand, Uzbekistan for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering from May 17 - 23, 2024.

The Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual, budget-friendly opportunities to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share your insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests.

This pop-up is a bit different than our standard event. Instead of staying in one destination for a week, we'll split our time between two different towns. This allows us to see more of this up-and-coming country. Uzbekistan was voted one of the top 2024 destinations by Lonely Planet and we can't wait to explore with you and find everything this country has to offer!

Pop in for a few days or the full time. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you!

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*Registan Square

*Eternal City

*Afrasiyab Settlement and Museum

*Shopping at the Ancient Silk Road Trading Domes

*Plazas, Parks, Palaces, Tombs, Mosques, Mausoleums, Museums, Madrasahs (Islamic Schools), Bazaars...there's so much these areas have to offer, and we can't wait to share it with you!

LODGING:

We're on the move...you must secure all your own accommodations in these suggested areas. Join for as many days as you're able.

*Bukhara - stay May 17 - 20. Booking had the best selection for accommodations. Lyabi Khauz or Po-i-Kalyan are good areas and close to where most of our activities will take place, but taxis are well priced and easy to get around from anywhere in the city. The host family is staying a few blocks south of Lyabi Khauz.

*We'll use May 20 as a travel day. Each family is responsible for getting from Bukhara to Samarkand. The host family plans on taking the train. They run them every couple of hours.

*Samarkand - stay May 20 - 23. Lots of options for accommodations on Booking and AirBnB. The Registan Square is the main point in town and close to most things, but again, taxis are easy. The host family is staying near the Amir Timur monument.

Ongoing Plan: The host family will stay in Central Asia for the next couple of months. We'll disclose our locations for those who want to stay longer in Central Asia and link two or more pop-ups together.

COST per Family

US$100 Early Bird Rate, expires February 1, 2024

US$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need, use code UZB2 at checkout)

MEET YOUR HOST:

Rachel & family sold everything in 2014 and never have looked back. We've been completely nomadic since 2018, homeschooling our three children. Some of our favorite family travel destinations include Turkey, Romania, New Zealand, Spain, and London. Our two younger kids will join the Pop-Up and will be 14 and 17 years old.

We run the Worldschool Pop-Up Hub and love the people we get to meet from this venture. So far, we've personally hosted or co-hosted more than 20 events and have attended a handful more. Can't wait to invite you into our mobile communities.

NEED TO KNOW:

Families are in charge of all their own transport and accommodations. We are happy to provide advice on where to stay, how to book trains, etc. if you have any questions.

It's recommended to download the "Yandex" app (Uzbek version of Uber or Grab). It's easy to use and cheaper than taxis with upfront prices.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Join the private Facebook group to ask questions, stay up to date on activities in the area, meet the host, and interact with other potential attendees:

We will use the same group for the Tashkent-Khiva Pop-Up & the Bukhara-Samarkand Pop-Up as we expect many families to attend both events.
