About The Event

Come join us in the Land of Fire & Ice for a fun-filled, community-centered worldschool gathering Oct 5 - 13, 2022.

Our Iceland Excursion provides the opportunity to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, share your insights, instill new friendships, learn about the local area, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community.

Due to the nature of tourism in Iceland, our Iceland Excursion is offered in a different format than our previous pop-ups. In order to see more of the island, we're planning 9 full days. Please join us for any and all that your budget allows...it's completely acceptable to come a few days late or leave a few days earlier.

We've cherry-picked activities that highlight local nature, history, and culture... and we've found shared lodging for families who would like to stay in the same neighborhood or complex as the host family at ~$US100/night for a family of four.

Scheduled activities include the following:

*Mývatn Nature Baths

*Detifoss Waterfall

*Skutustadir Pseudocraters

*Hverir Thermal Area

*West Fjiordlands

*Snaefellsnes Peninsula

*Golden Circle

*Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River

*Laugarvatn Fontana Hot Springs

*LAVA Centre

*Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls

*Reynisfjara Beach (basalt columns)

*Gígjagjá Yoda Cave

*Northern Lights, National Parks, Hikes, Lakes, Craters, Steam Vents... so much to see!

Add-ons include: Bjórböðin Beer Spa, thermal bread-baking at Laugarvatn Fontana, Glacier Hike at · Sólheimajökulll Glacier, whale watching, ice cave tour (might be a little early in the season), museums, Icelandic horse rides, and more!

LODGING:

We're on the move...you must secure all your own accommodations in these suggested areas. Join for as many days as you're able. There's no requirement to stay in the shared lodging, it's provided as an option.

*AKUREYRI (North) - stay Oct 4, 5, and 6. There are plenty of rentals near the town center via the typical search engines (AirBNB, Booking, Agoda, VRBO, etc).

*BORDEYRI (West) - stay Oct 7, 8, and 9 in shared lodging at Tangahus Guesthouse available on AirBNB & Booking (or lodging of your choice). Shared living area, bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry, ~US$100/night.

*HELLA (South) - stay Oct 10, 11, and 12 in shared lodging at Kaldbakur Guesthouse available on AirBNB & Booking (or lodging of your choice). Shared living area, bathrooms, and kitchen. No laundry facilities, ~US$100/night.

*REYKJAVIK - stay Oct 13 or longer if you have more time.

NEED TO KNOW:

You will need your own rental car for our Iceland Excursion. Families are in charge of all their own transport and accommodations. We are happy to provide contact details for the lodging in Borderyri and Hella if you'd like to stay at the same guesthouse.

Iceland is not a budget destination. Expect expensive food, gas, entrance fees, tours, etc. All activities on our itinerary are optional, so you're free to select the activities that appeal to you the most...or even split off from the group for a day or two to explore on your own.

MEET YOUR HOST:

Rachel Carlson and her family will be hosting this event. Rachel's family has been on the road full time since 2018 with plenty of travel experience prior to that. Two of the Carlson children will join in this pop-up (ages 13, and 15), their oldest is out of the home. Favorite family travel destinations include Spain, New Zealand, Hawaii, South Africa, and Florida Keys. Though Rachel also loves Sweden, Switzerland, and Laos, her kids have not visited these destinations yet. This will be Rachel's 12th pop-up as a host and 13th pop-up overall.
