About The Event

Come join us in Kailua-Kona, Big Island, Hawaii for a fun-filled and community-centered Worldschool Pop-Up December 5-12, 2021.

Want to connect with other traveling families and learn how we worldschool on a budget? Then this is for you! We've planned super casual, budget-friendly gatherings each day for families to meet each other and enjoy the outdoors.

The Pop-Up Hub cherry-picks the best low- or no-cost local activities for our group...but the Big Island offers loads of entertaining possibilities. We'll provide you with additional resources and ideas to tailor your own itinerary while here.

Plan a lot. Don't plan anything. Pop in for a few days or the full week. It's up to you! But we would love to have you come and simply HANG OUT with like-minded families while enjoying the local community offerings.

Can't wait to see you on the Big Island!

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*Beach hopping

*Hike at Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a State Park, Kealakekua Bay, Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a Cinder Cone or Kekaha Kai State Recreation area

*Waikōloa Petroglyph Field

*Kaloko-Honokōhau, the site of a former Hawaiian settlement and heiau (Hawaiian temple)

*Old Kona Town walk

*Whale watching

*Kona farmer's market

*Pu’uhonua O Ohaunau (The Place of Refuge)

*Lapakahi Historical state park

*Coffee farm

*Macnut farm

*Paniolo experience (Hawaiian ranchers and cowhands)

*Salt water dolphin lagoon

*Portuguese bread-making demonstrations with an authentic stone oven [EDIT: unfortunately these demos have been canceled due to covid]

*Lei-making

*Snorkeling

*Beach sunsets

Other add-ons include sailing, dolphin/whale-watching cruise, macadamia nut farm visit, Mauna Kea star gazing, Volcanoes National Park and more!

LODGING & Other Recommendations:

We encourage families to find accommodation as close to Kaillua-Kona town within their budget, most of our activities will center in that area. However, it is possible to stay as far south as Captain Cook (25 min drive, there is also bus service). Waikoloa Village to the north has options, it's 40 minute bus or car ride.

A rental car is preferred but not necessary. Hele-On Bus service ($1 children ages 5+, $2 adults) covers the island and even goes to Volcanoes National Park (3.5 hrs one way via bus). Use the Rome2Rio site/app for best bus schedule information.
