About The Event

Come join us in Porto, Portugal, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering March 26 - April 2, 2023.

Our pop-ups provide a super casual, budget-friendly opportunity to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, learn about the local area, instill new friendships, share your insights, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community.

We've cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature, arts, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests (we provide supplemental ideas to tailor your experience).

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you! We would love to have you come and simply hang out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings.

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

* Mercado do Bolhão (huge famous market with restaurants and shops)

* Rua Santa Catarina (pedestrian street with buskers, cafes, shops, malls, and historic buildings)

* Ponte de Dom Luís I (built in 1886, bridge links Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, great views)

* Torre dos Clérigos (Clérigos tower)

* Jardins do Palácio de Cristal (huge botanical park with amazing views and a playground)

* Sé área (oldest part of Porto with many historical buildings)

* São Bento Station (famous station for its beautiful tiles)

* Quinta do Covelo (playground, café, and nature area)

* Serralves (museum of contemporary art, treetop walk, traditional farm, and outdoor sculptures)

* Jardim do Morro (sunset views of Porto, playground, and great vibe)

Add-on options include the Sea Life Porto Aquarium, Livraria Lello lavishly-decorated historic bookstore, Palácio da Bolsa tour, World of Discoveries interactive history museum, Douro River cruise, and a visit to the WOW district where you can choose unique experiences to learn more about wine, chocolate, rosé, Porto history, drinking vessels, fabric, or cork.

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS:

In order to stay in a quieter, more centralized location we recommend finding lodging in the Marquês neighborhood near Marquês or Faria Guimarães metro stops or the Bomfim neighborhood near 24 de Agosto or Heroísmo metro stops.

Note: We do NOT recommend staying near São Bento Station in the Sé area as it is quite loud and bustling all the time. Additionally, the Campanhã neighborhood may be a little less safe at night. We're happy to answer lodging questions in the private Facebook group (link below).

The host family is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, a few minutes across the Ponte de Dom Luís I bridge near the Camara Gaia metro stop.

MEET YOUR HOST:  Rebecca

We are a family of six, with four daughters ages 15, 12, 9, and 9. We relocated to Portugal in 2021 from Wisconsin, USA... this was our first international trip ever, so it has been an adjustment for sure. We love Porto and want to share all the history, beauty, charm, and pastries with you! So far, we have only traveled within Portugal but plan to attend the London Pop-Up in Nov 2022 as well as the France Pop-Up in spring of 2023. We look forward to traveling to Spain, Italy, and Germany soon too. We can’t wait to meet you all and welcome you to our new home city of Porto!
