Come join us in the Quito, Ecuador, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering Oct 1 - 8, 2022.

Our pop-ups provide a super casual, budget-friendly opportunity to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, share your insights, instill new friendships, learn about the local area, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community.

We've cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature, arts, history, food, and culture... but you'll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group's interests (we provide plenty of supplemental ideas to tailor your experience).

Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you'd like. It's up to you! We would love to have you come and simply Hang Out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings.

Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:

*Mercado Artesanal La Mariscal

*Museo Interactivo de Ciencia

*Zoológico de Quito

*Centro Historico Quito

*Parque La Carolina with its vintage airplane and botanical gardens

*Stroll La Ronda, a pedestrian street with unique restaurants, stores, and experiences (don't forget to taste the chocolate or learn to spin a hand-carved top)

*Climb the spires of Basilica del Voto Nacional and look for animal gargoyles

*Explore Plaza Grande & Plaza de San Francisco (and the shops in the old catacombs below the church)

*Admire the jaw-dropping, gold-gilded, oldest church in Quito: Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús

*Search for alpacas in Parque Metropolitano Guangüiltagua

Add-on options include a day trip to Mitad del Mundo (the center of the world where the equator line runs through Ecuador), ride the TeleferiQo (teleferio + Quito) cable car up Pinchincha Mountain, stop to learn about local art at Casa del Alabado Museum of Pre-Colombian Art, a visit to El Panecillo -- the 135-foot-tall winged Virgin Mary statue guarding the city of Quito, enjoy the views at the all-glass Yaku Water Museum with life-sized "Snakes & Ladders" game, and more!

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS:

NOTE: Quito, Ecuador is at elevation 9350ft / 2850m above sea level. Your family may need a few days to acclimate to the oxygen level before the pop-up starts. Please plan accordingly.

Where to stay: Quito is an expansive city, and we will have activities spread across multiple areas. That being said, we recommend finding lodging within the neighborhoods of La Carolina, La Floresta, or Centro Historico. We will provide you with more detailed information about ways to get around the city (eg, buses, taxis, Uber, etc) within the private Facebook group. The host family will stay in proximity to these neighborhoods.

MEET YOUR HOST: Amanda

Hello! We're a family of four (kids ages are 7 and 11 years old) from the US enjoying the gifts of slow travel. We first left the US in 2019 and enjoyed the Pura Vida life of Costa Rica during the global events of 2020. As we wrap up a year living in various cities in central Mexico, we are looking forward to experiencing life in South America. This lifestyle has allowed us to get to know ourselves and family on a deeper level, which has meant creating a "home" in each place we live. Each place we've lived has offered us rich growth opportunities to deepen our connections with ourselves, our family, and the greater world. We're looking forward to connecting with other families on their own worldschooling and life journeys!
